Quick Ways to Prep for Holiday Guests

Published by Capitol City Homes

Are you getting your new home ready for guests to arrive this holiday season? Preparing for a house full of friends and family can feel intimidating. Think simple and meaningful—not stressful—with this foolproof guide to easy holiday hosting in your new construction home.

Clear out entryway closets. From the moment guests arrive, make them feel welcome by providing ample room for their jackets, scarves and shoes. You’ll also avoid that clumsy coat pile on the stairs! If guests will have their own room for sleeping, do the same in the guest room closet. Providing a generous amount of space will allow your visitors to unpack and feel settled in for the holiday.

De-clutter and tidy your home. Focus on the entertainment hot spots: dining table, family room, kitchen counters and the guest sleeping area. Clear away any toys, shoes, paper stacks and anything else in the way. You may want to temporarily relocate the kids’ play-zones to the bedrooms or another out-of-the-way space to avoid the constant toy pick up.

Add personal touches. With just a little planning ahead, you can easily incorporate thoughtful details for your guests to enjoy. Place some reading material by the bedside, such as magazines, a local visitors guide, or a collection of holiday stories, along with a flameless candle for a cozy, decorative touch. Stock the pantry with a few special treats or bake a favorite homemade goodie.

Don’t forget the basics! Stack a set of towels on the guest bed and have a few extra in the bathroom. Leave a basket full of toiletries like toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner and hand lotion. Having the essentials at hand will help your guests feel at home.

Sometimes new is better and easier, especially when it comes to towels and sheets. Take inventory of what you have and if things are beginning to look a little shabby, it may be time to replace them. Even just a few new hand towels will refresh a bathroom or splurge on holiday-themed flannel sheets for a special touch.

We hope these tips help you create special memories with friends and family. If a new home is on your Christmas list, check out our available homes and contact us today!
